positive discrimination as a mechanism against deprivation:
Authors
abstract
after the second world war one of the most effective ways which could make an important impact on the life of minorities and deprived communities has been positive discrimination. of course, it has been always controversial in terms of its legitimacy as well as its real impact on changes. using positive discrimination to promote women's condition in many countries and fields such as entering of women to universities, management positions, and generally to womanly positions has been received great deal of attention, and it could be effective in iranian society in which women's circumstances is rapidly changing. although the condition of iranian women has changed significantly and they are more educated than they were before, this strong social presence has not resulted in having decent job opportunities .so iranian women are experiencing vulnerable conditions in comparison with the conditions of iranian men. however, it is not a case just for iranian women to experience these unfair circumstances since it is typically seen in most developing countries. surprisingly, even in some developed countries the access of women have been narrowed toward some high profile jobs and they are faced various difficulties when it comes their promotion within the system. this study tries to find out about the historical origins of positive discrimination and it's compatibility with the condition of women in developing and developed countries. it is also tried to find out about the possibility of positive discrimination in terms of its application in iranian society.

The mechanism of neuroprotective effect of Viola odorata against serum/glucose deprivation-induced PC12 cell death
Objective: Oxidative stress is associated with the pathogenesis of brain ischemia and other neurodegenerative disorders. Previous researches have shown the antioxidant activity of Viola odorata L. In this project, we studied neuro-protective and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activities of methanol (MeOH) extract and other fractions isolated from <e...
full textPeak shift discrimination learning as a mechanism of signal evolution.
"Peak shift" is a behavioral response bias arising from discrimination learning in which animals display a directional, but limited, preference for or avoidance of unusual stimuli. Its hypothesized evolutionary relevance has been primarily in the realm of aposematic coloration and limited sexual dimorphism. Here, we develop a novel functional approach to peak shift, based on signal detection th...
full textPerceived Discrimination as a Mechanism for the Effects of Poverty
Social-class discrimination is evident in many societies around the world, but little is known about its impact on the poor or its role as an explanatory variable in the link between socioeconomic status and health. The current study tested the extent to which perceived discrimination explains socioeconomic gradients in physical health. Participants were 252 adolescents (51% male, 49% female; m...
full textMechanism Discrimination for Bimolecular Reactions: Revisited with a Practical Hydrogenation Case Study
The governing mechanism of surface reactions is a fundamental concern in heterogeneous catalysis. The Langmuir–Hinshelwood (LH) mechanism is widely accepted to control the surface reactions in many catalytic systems. This contribution derives and compares several important surface rate equations to evaluate their quality of fitting to the experimental data collected for a vapor-phase hydrogenat...
full textPositive allosteric modulation of TRPV1 as a novel analgesic mechanism
BACKGROUND The prevalence of long-term opiate use in treating chronic non-cancer pain is increasing, and prescription opioid abuse and dependence are a major public health concern. To explore alternatives to opioid-based analgesia, the present study investigates a novel allosteric pharmacological approach operating through the cation channel TRPV1. This channel is highly expressed in subpopulat...
full textAltered global shape discrimination in deprivation amblyopia
To assess the effect of deprivation amblyopia on global shape discrimination, sensitivity to radial deformation of circular patterns was assessed in patients treated for congenital (N=7) or developmental (N=1) cataracts. Elevation in radial deformation threshold was dependent on circular contour frequency and the depth of amblyopia. Analysis of thresholds expressed as Weber fractions indicated ...
